Why You Shouldn’t Worry About Having Resources to Start a New Venture

When people want to start a new project, whether it is a new exercise program, a new job, a new business or a new course of study, they are often concerned about having access to resources.  They feel that they need to secure resources or else they will not be able to effectively start.

The first thing to remember is that if the amount of resources you had equalled your creativity and propensity for success then large governments would be the most successful and creative entities in the market.  We know that this is not the case and that having too many resources can actually hinder creativity as it can create bloated bureaucracies that require many levels of management to agree to any major decision.  This is also true with many large companies.

The Wright brothers are actually an excellent example of this.  There were a number of teams working on the first viable aircraft.  Most of the front-runners were companies or well-funded groups that required many people to agree to a decision while the Wright brothers were able to experiment at a much quicker pace and adjust their prototypes at the same speed.  In so doing they were able to get their airplane to fly before any of the other groups.

This is the same situation today.  Many innovations, particularly in technology, come from small or new companies that are able to quickly adjust the course of their work based on the results they are getting rather than having to have a number of stake holders agree to any changes.  It is not an absolute rule as some very large companies like Google and Amazon are very innovative and have a policy of encouraging their employees to think of new products, processes and services.

The truth is resources are not required to achieve success and certainly not required to start.  There are plenty of resources that are available that are completely free.  The most obvious is Google or any other search engine.  At an even more basic level, there are free computers available at libraries if you do not have one.  With access to a library, you could start a blog, podcast or YouTube channel at no cost.  You could start a side business on the internet in the same way with a free website.

With access to all of the internet, information is not a resource that will be in short supply and most people will have to spend time sifting through all of it to determine what they need.  The great thing is for most new ventures you only need a small amount of knowledge to start, and you can learn the rest as you go.  It may actually help you start more quickly as you are not paralyzed by too much information and can just begin.

So do some research on the new thing you want to start and then start.  You will be amazed at the results.
