If It Hasn’t Been Done By You, It Hasn’t Been Done
There is a very old quote that says that there is nothing new under the sun. The implication being that there are no new ideas. That may be so, but the reality is that there are unnumerable ways to do things even if the underlying ideas are not new.
Why is this important? The reason is because of context. You would not speak to your grandmother or your teacher at school in the same manner that you would speak to your friends. You would not speak to the President that way that you would speak to your spouse. We know that these things are true and yet many people feel that they do not have anything unique to contribute to society. This is completely untrue!
When you put your own unique perspective on a subject and even how to convey that subject, it may very well appeal to an audience that can relate to it better than if an authority they respected but did not relate to tried to communicate with them. This is a very important part of communication as we all learn differently and your method of communication may well be the one that they most relate to.
One way to think of doing something is to think that “if it hasn’t been done by you, it hasn’t been done.” Now this may seem arrogant at first until you think of the implications of that statement. You are unique in the world as is your communication style and understanding of things. However, it is very likely that your communication style will appeal and resonate with a group of people better than anything they have heard because of the context you use and the way you are communicating.
With that in mind, when you communicate, use your own particular style and don’t worry so much about how it will be perceived by an audience. You won’t know how it will be received until you get reactions from people and you may be pleasantly surprised to find that there are other people with your unique view that enjoy your communication and educational style.

[…] To be clear, this is not the same thing as speaking differently to different people depending on context. You would not be expected to speak to your teacher at school, your friends or a police officer […]
