To Be Liked and Trusted do This Simple Thing

If you think about the people that we like the most, they usually have a number of traits that are appealing.  They are often fun to be around, they may be funny, interesting and they make us feel good about spending time with them.

There is one trait that virtually all of them have in common, however.  They are givers.  They give their time, their attention, their resources, their help and their knowledge.  If they know something or someone, they are happy to share it with everyone.  Whether it is pertinent information, a contact in a particular industry, a great repairman or lawyer or a restaurant, they make others feel like they are important by giving them all of these things.

That is not to say that they give people money.  That is rarely the secret to helping people.  They give all of the other things mentioned because they know that it is what they need.

Most importantly, they give without any expectation of getting anything back.  They just give.

One of the most off-putting things that people do is they give with the expectation that they will get something in return.  We all know these people and tend to avoid them because they only call and “give” something when they want something in return.  They also tend to keep score and get upset when they do not get something in return when they “give.”

True givers give without any expectation and they gain that reputation and THAT is whey they are liked and trusted.  There is no ulterior motive that we have to worry about.  They give for the sake of giving.

If you give for the sake of giving, whatever that is, time, knowledge, maybe money, help, it doesn’t matter, you will see that people will seek you out and like and trust you.
